Being fairly new to Substack, I’m finding the arrangement of things somewhat random. It’s a feeling of being a bit ‘all over the place’. I remember first seeing your writings and felt almost an immediate sense of connection and inspiration. I literally had never sketched a thing, apart from maybe a stick man, and I’m incredibly inspired to try with no judgment and a lovely dose of kindness and encouragement.

I am so happy to hear of your continued recovery from such a devastating health event. You have an admirable spirit and dedication to your health, you’ll no doubt have a long and active life.

I will continue to carve out time from my obligations to challenge myself sketching and enjoy the inspiration of your writings and art.

Thankyou Nancy, that is so kind of you. The platform is a little bit like that, but I'm on it quite a bit and have got used to the different areas like chat, comments, threads and the differing function of the Android app and the website.

I really glad to hear you want to continue, it really is so much fun so long as you don't overload yourself with pressure

I am happy to hear that your surgery is receding into your rearview mirror with each passing month. I love that gadget of yours.

Today I only got as far as putting sketching materials back in my car, but the local views in this suburban town did not inspire me to sketch this morning. With the cooling weather, sketching from the car (like Shari Blaukopf does up in Canada) are becoming a possibility.

Thankyou Jo. That's a good analogy with the rear view mirror👍 Finding a good subject is where I tend to concentrate most of my efforts. Occasionally it leads to dry spells, although I am used to it now and trust my intuition. The recent Ink sketch of 'Pollen Cafe' came about after wandering around Truro for a good while looking for both the subject and location,. Even inside the cathedral didn't get me going (despite all it had to offer structurally) It took the view from a park bench of the cutesy Cafe to finally do it as I was trudging home🤗

Wow, that's a great gadget! Thanks for the idea! Engagement is a tricky thing, sometimes people just don't have time or resource to answer and comment, but they still enjoy seeing the art and reading the posts. Internet is a tricky place, it connects us, but also overwhelms us quite a bit, so I usually don't expect much engagement - if it happens, it happens. I need to learn more about it too, because I want to grow on this platform. It's great to hear about someone's experience and may be figure out things collectively! Also I am glad that you're feeling good!

Thanks Lisa it's very easy to make. I'm not overly worried, I'm trying to build this as a side hustle, the engagement is a 1000 percent better than Meta and I'm meeting interesting people along the way. I don't have too many expectations from this platform as despite being different, it is still social media. It is certainly more enjoyable, long may it continue like this.

I have a similar approach! I started out here, because it helps me to be consistent with both my art and writing, I'll see where it takes me.

lol, I knew you would question that. It is an Aussie saying, I have no clue where it came from other than perhaps a very early ad for Vegemite. No I didn’t check the Etsy link, possibly because it was a bit early in the morning , I did see the link to JustGoSketching so I will now check it out. … Crikey, no wonder you made your own!! £34 and yours was a third of the price.

Aren’t you a clever little vegemite… Other than investing in a miniature easel or one of those boxed sets, you have come up with a way to suit all your needs whilst outside sketching, at a minimal cost. Well done with your new sketch. And don’t fret too much about followers for your prompts, they are probably out there doing them anyway but not telling you. And as for numbers, I have probably had more in the past couple of months than the last two years, but still don’t have 100 subscribers, not that I worry because many of those I do have have become good mates, and for me that makes up for it.

A clever little vegemite ...🤣 what is that even!! Yes the gadget performed very well. Did you look at the link to Etsy,..I blatantly plagiarised the shape!

I see many posts about how to build and write but there is always an algorithm lurking somewhere 😉

Interesting gadget and some great sketches🙂 I may well not attempt all your sketch prompts, but you have successfully lured me into getting out my watercolours, trying some new methods and reviving my interest in colour mixing, light and a looser use of paints, so thank you:-)

Yes, the gadget works well too. Thankyou for the kind comments and engaging with my writing and drawing. It's the best feeling when people get motivated to try something or restart something. Hope the writing is going well.
