Welcome
Last week was quite busy so let's dive straight in to what I’ve discovered.
I intentionally made a decision to put more ‘marks’ on paper. It is easy to stress about making perfect art, you'll find a lot of people talk about it in their writing - Solution, just don't stress and put more marks on paper!
It helps by having plenty of material to inspire and get that creativity flowing - as I've mentioned before in my post ‘Sketch or Photo’ I take plenty of photos but use very few!
Sketch ‘in real life’ (the younguns use IRL - I figured it out yay🙌 ) So once you get over the slight awkwardness of carrying and using your sketchbook in public it becomes easy to get sketching.
There is no right or wrong way - just the doing way.
Substack is full of encouraging people and so far I’m loving it. I’ve been wondering a lot recently about the void of Meta and haven't be able to connect people with my art on IG or FB. It appears to be more natural over here! Maybe the algorithm is being kind to me!
I also recently deleted a list of subscribers that were imported from Wordpress as there was no engagement. After all, I want to build an interested community!
The recent vlog in my post ‘Cycle Sketching Tour in Cornwall’ appeared to be quite well received - note to self will definitely do it again but better.
Some people have asked about materials I use. I have no affiliates (another note to self!) but I have no problem sharing so I will commit that to a topic in one of my weekly newsletters.
I enjoy discussing with you, answering questions and viewing other peoples work so I will generally like what I read, then follow and possibly subscribe if we have shared interests.
My fitness has improved with all the cycling & running this week - I will occasionally go off on a tangent to talk about health and wellbeing btw, I hope you understand. I still have my heart to think about as it is always on my mind now, it has only been 31 weeks since being ‘opened up’ and re plumbed! (If anyone does want me to discuss this more please message or just comment as I am open to writing about it, particularly if it can help anyone.
I use Substack notes quite a lot, oh and #11 my wife makes lovely banana cake!
Finally
I’m always happy to hear from fellow enthusiasts in the comments👇
Anyway ‘till next time, happy sketching.
Capture your World in a Sketchbook is a free newsletter. I have no problem telling you your Coffee donations are not only greatly appreciated, they motivate me to carry on writing and sharing when all you see is social media algorithms!
(Sometimes, I may not be able to trace you back to your Substack name from Kofi)
After my previous remark when I said about perfectionism, you paint like I would like to, practice, practice I guess. I am a bit tired of trying for perfection. Great work you have shown in this post.
I love your style! 😍
