Welcome
So this week I’m trying something different with a video of a recent cycle day out in Cornwall. Also, it’s a little earlier in the week.
I apologise for the quality as it is my first attempt at a ‘vlog’ - a little nerve racking to get decent audio and video clips. I also realise how far behind the times I am as this isn't a new thing.
The two sketches I did while on this day out are further down the post. I do hope you enjoy watching despite the rather amateur nature of it. I realise it’s 4 minutes of your life you will not get back but I think it’s worth it! 🚲🤔
I may try it again with a view to making it an overall slicker experience (and an easier edit for me) - let me know what you think.
I wanted it to be more about showing what is possible, with just a bike and small bag of kit.
Then there is showcasing the lovely Cornwall, it may give you an idea for where you live, take time for yourself to get a taste of urban sketching or perhaps more accurately rural sketching.
So here it is …
I can certainly improve the audio and tone for next time 😀 The experience was thoroughly enjoyable knowing I was taking time for me with my health and creativity at front and centre, honestly you should give it a go. Obviously the weather helped!
This is the final picture of The Old Quay Inn1 with the watercolour added - I quite like it
Here is the other one at Bon appetit cafe2 as always I’ll add map references as some people may be interested in seeing where these little gems are in the world.
Finally
I’m always happy to hear from fellow enthusiasts in the comments👇
I love the interaction and if there is something you would like to see just let me know - a particular topic, sketchbooks, paints, pens, more video or pictures?
Anyway ‘till next time, happy sketching.
Capture your World in a Sketchbook is a free newsletter. I have no problem telling you your Coffee donations are not only greatly appreciated, they motivate me to carry on writing and sharing when all you see is damned social media algorithms! (Sometimes, I may not be able to trace you back to your Substack name from Kofi)

I appreciate the little video and your sketches are wonderful. I especially like the gestural colouring in the cafe sketch in that you have left lots of white paper visible. Which black pen do you use to sketch? Does it stay put when putting washes of watercolour over it afterwards?
Thanks for the inspiring post :)
Thankyou Rachel. It's the UniPin Fineline 0.1mm water and fade proof pigment ink, permanent ink so no running with water. Mitsubishi pencil co Ltd. Going to try Sukura soon though
