Watching your sketchbook reminded me of when I first started with painting, testing out all options to see where I might end up. Also, re your heart surgery, I am happy to read this as my brother had the same surgery nearly twenty years ago, and you are explaining how everything operates, unfortunately for him due to being a smoker and doing heavy manual work on a sheep farm he passed away 5 years later. So you make sure you follow all of your doctors and wifeβ s orders , yes we can be bossy too. π€
Thankyou Sally, I'm hoping for more than 5 years but it's surprising how not bossy they are! I'm finding more stuff out for myself. Happy sketchingπ
I enjoyed the tour around your sketch book, thank you πβ¦I have always enjoyed sketching, and I appreciate your non intimidating approach and encouragement regarding having a go. Having more experience of detailed pen work, this really helps my aim of loosening up and using watercolour more effectively, and more sparingly. I also appreciate what sparked your sketching and the heart health awareness promotion, and wish you well.
Thankyou Pip for replying and your best wishes. I've enjoyed seeing your pictures and style in the chat threads and hope you get something out of it. Everything will develop more with the interested community we are building. Happy sketching π
I enjoyed every page of your sketchbook tour Carl! I think we do other people a favor by showing even the ones that went a bit wrong. It helps us see that over time, practice and learning from past mistakes are the way to improve our sketching skills. Perhaps I will post a sketchbook tour now and then.
And there is so much we all need to do to take better care of our hearts. your story might help save a life, so thanks for sharing it.
As always Jo, you are kind and thoughtful. I know i love a sketchbook tour, so it would be nice to see yours.
I look for ideas and to see how people journal., hich is something i don't do as i feel i don't travel enough! But probably could as i'm typing this, taking a break, I'm looking at a sleeping cat π
Wow, what a great read and accompanying video! I can tell you that I am βin the right placeβ with all of it. Iβm completely inspired to draw and I respond well to the gentle encouragement you share. Seeing your sketchbook review was really fun and I appreciated every page.
I started oil painting landscapes at 69 (soon to be 71) as a complete novice. Novice to mark making, not a novice to art appreciation. I donβt know how to draw, really, but Iβm ready to try with you.
Thank you for sharing your heart attack journey into recovery and good health. As I sit in my car typing to you, Iβm waiting for my husband to complete a PET Scan, a part of his cancer journey.
Iβm not up to date on all your stacks, but I will catch up.
Best wishes for all good things.

Nan, thankyou for your kind words. I really hope your husband is on the path of recovery, best wishes to you both. We look forward to seeing you on the chat threads, never any pressure and they are not 'challenges' just ideas to try if you want to. I'll always try to get one on their too. Happy sketching πCJ
Great glimpse of your colorful collection! Itβs really inspiring to see how your style has evolved. Those building sketches are super cool! Love the aging charm of the sketchbook from all the use.
