Hello reader,
Here is my 2nd instalment and I’m finding my feet on Substack, albeit fairly slowly. In reality I don’t actually know what I’m doing! I did say I’m trying to build a community of like minded people and I know I can’t be the only one struggling to find my mojo on this platform - or am I?
I wanted to mention the ‘scaryness’ of marking the first page of a new sketchbook, I have one that I want to use - Seawhite Watercolour Travel Journal 200gsm - but find myself not wanting to make the first mark! Instead I feel I should finish the current book which I bought before I even had the urge to paint in it - Artway Doodle, soft leather bound sketchbook. I find the paper a little light weight for the amount of colour I use, it feels more like a pencil or ink only book.
Just as a side note, I remember buying the Artway book on St Michaels Mount here in Cornwall. I would highly recommend a visit to his lovely little island just off the coast nr Marazion, Cornwall, UK ( St Michael's Mount ) A great walk and house with plenty of photo and drawing opportunity.
So, here I am betwixt two journals and feeling I need to frantically fill the Artway - Perhaps I should just have two or three on the go and think no more of it. Does anyone else have these dilemmas or is it just me?
Anyway, I promised to keep it short, as always feel free to ask any questions. Here are a couple of sketches - have a great week and please comment with your own pics.
This is a view from my bedroom window - drawn whilst having a lazy weekend lie in! I would be interested to see a sketched view from your window.
This one is a view from Portreath Beach, Cornwall, UK. looking west towards the coast path which goes up the hill near the top of the sketch. Again in the Artway book!
Well i can definitely recommend it as a therapeutic hobby, and absolutely love it 👍
I never start at the front, but somewhere towards the back. The pressure of perfect opening pages is too great. By working backwards the front there's also the hope that I'll be getting "better" as I progress 🤣
